Learn About the Ambit Scam!

Looking to start in the Ambit Business? Are yout thinking about switching to Ambit natural gas service? read here first… the Ambit scam is not what you think.

Yeah, you have heard of Ambit Natural Gas right? Is it a scam? Do people looking to get involved in the Ambit Business really make money? Well, here are a few things you need to know before forking out your $400 bucks.

1) the most successful people in Ambit were previously a part of another network marketing business. Get this straight: they came from anoter multi-level marketing opportunity and brought their minions with them! You see folks, this is now MLM people work…they jump from network to network, dragging their “friends” with them. What this means is they start out making pretty good money (the guys at the top do) because they are dragging their network of weak-minded followers with them!

So, yes, you can make money with Ambit Energy if you have a network of others who enjoy MLM business models who you can bring with you.

2) if you are not already in an MLM type business, then Ambit Energy will be quite rough for you to succeed in. Here’s why: you have to be willing to sacrifice friendships in order to get customers. Yep, that is exactly what I was told as an Ambit consultant.

One of the big dogs, some pseudo-pastor from a big religious faction in Texas said it straight up. He said that when he wanted to get his first few Ambit customers, that he called his closest friends. He called those people who would be there for him at 2AM if he had a flat tire. (in other words, people who will do anything for you just because they are your trusted friend).

He asked those people to sign up as his electricity (or natural gas) customers. If his close friend told him, “no.” then he would say to them, “since you are not willing to help me with this small favor to help my business, then I just want you to know that our relationship is going to change from this point on.”

You know what folks? That is BULLSHIT! You don’t treat friends and family that way. Maybe this pastor should realize that leveraging friendship in this manner actually hurts people and causes bitterness to creep in to people’s hearts.

3) the Ambit opportunity from a business standpoint is honest and NOT a scam. You do get paid on time and the back office support is really top notch. The customers also get what they are promised (as long as you did not lie about what you were selling them) and the savings are there for the most part.

Long story short: Ambit works if you already have a network of other MLM-types to bring with you and you are willing to leverage friendship in order to get customers. However, can you stand the tactics that one preacher used on me? This preacher taught from a motel room pulpit how to bully and scam your friends and family into joining Ambit.

You should really be careful about putting this stuff
out there. For exapmple – you don’t have to follow
the pasors advice. Jsut keep moving if someone won’t
become a customer. It takes a bit of maturity, but you
can do it. I really can’t stand to see people that spew
hateraid all over an opportunity because of their own
personal limitations. Just stop talking, and do some work!

  2. Sal Armstrong says:

I totally agree with Joe Blanton,

If you can stand the heat then get out of the kitchen. I think what is really unethical is that someone who doesn’t have the gumptshion to do what it takes and isn’t committed to getting the job done tries to kill someone elses dream. Tell me why you just can’t admit that this type of business isn’t for you and leave it alone.

I have worked MLM / Network marketing for over 30 years, some work, some don’t. Usually, it wasn’t because of the company, it was simply due to the fact that either the product didn’t suite me and I couldn’t totally support the program or I didn’t do the necessary work to make it happen.

I can tell you that I usually preface any comments to a client by simply saying; ” Your friendship means more to me that the dollar I might make,” so if this isn’t for you just say so and get on along with life.

I may have lost some business, but I still have my friends. You must decide what is most important for you.

But ……….. DON’T KILL SOMEONE ELSES DREAM just because it didn’t work for you.

So it works. The only friends I want to make are dead presidents.

  5. Art says:

Ambit is a true business opportunity. It works if you work.
If you do what you are required to do, you get paid. That’s
not a scam. How many jobs did you get fired from because
you didn’t do what you were required to do. You are a looser.
Don’t expect to get paid when you don’t do anything. Just
because you are not successful, don’t put down a real
    opportunity.

  6. Jim says:

Ambit Energy is a company. Thats all….

What you make out of Ambit Energy…is your destiny.

If you Fail….you failed. If you succeed…you succeeded.

Its comical to see people blame others for their failure…….Playing VICTIM!!

I failed at Golf…..I guess now I can call Golf a scam.
    I paid for:
    Clubs
    Professional Training (Golf Pro)
    Manuals
    DVDs
When I see Tiger Woods doing so well…..I wonder how hes scamming everyone because he’s at the top and we are all down below….

Now I should create a site called: Shame your Family and Friends into Golf

  7. Jeff Lovell says:

I just signed up through a good friend. He asked, I looked into it, talked to others who had and decided to do it myself. If at the very least I save a bit on my gsa bill fine. If I can save up points and get a bigger benefit then even better. Will I become a “consultent” probably not. Either way I see it for what it is and what it can be for those who want to pursue it. More power to them.

  8. Jason says:

I like Facts: That can be verified….not someones bullshit opinion.

Fact 1. The US government has given Ambit Energy a federal tax ID number to operate as a direct selling business in 3 states.
Fact 2. CONED.com NationalGrid.com NYSEG.com list Ambit Energy on their websites.
Fact 3. BBB rates Ambit Energy with an A from a A-F rating.
Fact 4. The DSA.org lists Ambit Energy
Fact 5. Ambit Energy is only will give you what you put into it – Thats Fair
Fact 6. You are probably retarded if you think Ambit Energy is a Scam

  9. David says:

Many people are suggesting that this is a scam. But i have noticed that most of those people are those, who have never really achieved anything, just because of their laziness. I personally will try to get into that business in NY. 400 dollars is not that much in perspective, to even not succeed and earn 200 a week for the rest of Your days. Life by its definition is something unknown= risk. You don’t risk, You don’t succeed. And I disagree that it has influence on Your friendship. It depends, how You really are with those, who You love.

  10. Matt says:

    Jason,

Those are facts but they do not prove that Ambit is a viable company. Many thought Madoff was an investing guru meanwhile he was a crook. Many legitimate companies invested with him. If they told you he was a scam artist would you call those companies ‘retarded’.

In order to know if Ambit is a scam you have to look at how they generate the cash flows which support their business. Are cashflows generated mostly through energy sales or through recruiting fees ? If the later is their bread and butter it is a pyramid scheme. If they generate their cashflows from electric sales then they are a viable company. Eventually the recruiting fees will slow and cease and what you will be left with is cash from energy sales. If the cash from energy sales is not enough to cover their operating expenses they will become insolvent.

In addition, how come no one mentioned Excel Comm. a telecom company that went bankrupt in 2004. They formed when telecom deregulated. I believe that some Ambit uppers were involved with that company. They followed the same MLM plan as Ambit does today. Excell Comm. was a pyramid and upon bankruptcy did not honor any contracts with consultants. What makes you believe that these leaders turned a new leaf and are not scamming people anymore ?

As Ambit does not allow anyone to see their financial statements it is impossible to do any real research. As such I do not know how anyone here can speak with such certainty.

  11. Scott says:

It would be helpful if a reference could be made to the Ambit website to separate out these “sour grapes” posts vs. their most important concern: Their loss of $400. For instance, why must that fee be set so high? If it is allocated for the hours of upfront necessary training, then let’s see some type of justification for that. In short, the majority of all the hostile comments come from those who feel that the $400 was excessive. They are willing to admit that they just didn’t recruit enough people, but instead of “show me the money”, their refrain is “show me where the money went”, or alternatively, “If I drop out, why can’t I get at least a partial refund”. That is, how many hours did someone spend on training me? Most successful MLM’s with a positive reputation charge modest sign up fees in the range of $50 – $100 and put the focus on overrides and commissions.

  12. Michael says:

First this is a Direct Selling Business key word Direct if you don’t do anything you don’t make anything! Its Direct from company thru you to customer. You don’t get paid to sign up. They only pay if you deliver the goods. Second why do you think all the Rich Retired Smart mlm leaders came out of retirement for this, they didn’t need to work they are set, they are doing it cause it works and its Generational Wealth for them their kids grandkids and great grandkids. bet we all wish we had some parent grandparent greatgrandparent that did this for us. Third if you apply yourself to any mlm you will make money. Keyword Apply Self. Check out my site, its simple. I joined about a month ago and already got promoted and quadrupled my investment. So its working for me and I think anyone can do it but maybe not but so far it has worked for everyone on my team. I’m committed to my teams success cause its the only way I can be a success so join for yourself or to challenge me or try to prove me wrong!

Ambit Energy is not a get rich quick scheme. They dont promise you millions. They dont require that you buy shit. Its simple. Get customers…get FREE ENERGY! Notice how I didnt say you must recruit to make money….even though building a team would increase your income potential….you can actually sign up 15 customers and receive FREE ENERGY! AND GUESS WHAT! THE incumbant: CON-Edison will send out a thank you letter for switching to AMBIT!!!

How dumb can people be….stop being so weak minded.

I went to a Scambit meeting today at a friend’s behest. I was amazed there were so many gullible people left out there with $400 in their pockets. I figured all those people sent their last cent to Nigeria years ago.

Ambit boasts being an energy reseller with $600 million in yearly revenues. Yet the margins on reselling energy is just a few percent. So before administrative expenses…the company is clearing maybe $10-$20 million or so off their energy business…after administrative expenses they are probably running in the red. So what exactly is supporting these five figure monthly checks by the people at the top of the pyramid?…The “consultants” (aka suckers). Those $400 sign up fees and the $25 monthly fees to have the honor of pitching others. I don’t think it will be long before the company goes under, or sells their clients to another company, leaving all the successful(temporarily) “consultants” crying to their state attorneys general that they were scammed.

    3. The lottery has more losers than winners…
    4. MLM has more losers than winners…

    5. CAPITALISM…is the issue at hand….not AMBIT ENERGY.

  17. Jon says:

This is all very interesting. If you look up AMBIT, then you will find at least a dozen deregulation companies. I went to a consultant for ACN a few years ago. Same EXACT thing. Everybody uses gas and electricity, you can sell it without even trying!! Interesting. Three of my co-workers were in ACN so I figured it couldn’t be that bad. The guy showed me an “article from Fortune 500.” He flashed it really quick. I guess he didn’t know I had more then enough time to see the small print that said “Paid Advertisement” at the top of the page.
I’m not saying that the people in AMBIT are dumb by any means. I just see the similarities between these two companies. The ACN consultants I worked with me, at my actual job, weren’t bad salespeople. One of my co-workers could sell anything you put in front of him even though you were the one that put in front of him!! This man was a genious when it came to marketing. Out of the three, he was the one that did the best. He quit ACN after two years. He said it was too much for him since he had a son. The forty people signed up, not as other consultants, but as customers, didn’t bring in enough money. Don’t forget the lack of benefits. You need to have health benefits with a newborn.
The best part was when the consultant that I talked to, told me there was a $500 start up fee!! I asked him what it was for. He told me that was what it cost to be registered as your own business. Interesting. So I was going to be working for a company, but needed to be my own business? Something didn’t add up in that logic alone. It only costs $35 to get the application to register a business in the state of New York. I know because I had a business. When I asked him to elaborate on the cost, he couldn’t.
The final final straw was the website he gave me. It was rebellion something or other .com. Okay. So why is there a different website between ACN and this group? ACN had a corporate office and a corporate website. No where on the COMPANY’s website, did it mention the consultants or salespeople. It’s not hard to have a BBB rating of A when the company and the salespeople aren’t linked in any way. With the BBB you have to have a complaint that is, without a doubt, linked to the company. The BBB gets million complaints a day about businesses. If the BBB can’t prove, without doubt, that the company made a mistake, then they won’t count it against the business. In the case of ACN, the salespeople were their own company and ACN denied that these folks worked on their staff. They could prove it too. You never made it onto their payroll. They were paying you as a separate business and by doing so, were able to write you off on thier taxes. You were a business expense that brought in all the money, and cut their costs, all at the same time!!!
I work two jobs and I make it by just fine. I work and I work hard and I have moved up to management in both. All the people that are defending AMBIT, there’s only one thing that you have all said that is true. Working hard is the only way to succeed. Obviously you didn’t work hard enough at the real jobs that you supposedly left. In two years, post an update on how you are doing. If you failed or the company went under, don’t lie to make yourself look good. You got scammed and that’s all there is too it. Don’t defend the company just to save face.

  18. Devon says:

Hmm.. there is a new word that explains you criticizing non-believers, Haters, which I don’t believe has been adopted by Oxford yet. But I really can’t believe I wasted a half an hour running thru this I could of got another customer instead. But since I took the time, i’ll take some more. Im not sure how things are done in Illinois or Texas with AMBIT but in NY us consultants get a part of that “400 start up money” $100 to the MC’s above and $155 to the RC above if it reaches that far up, the money extra over 400 is apparently for your consultation package and personal websites. This opportunity is one in a lifetime, those who have doubts take the risk-free action of signing up as a customer, only real way to actually find out. And if your in New York give me a call, we can go out to lunch and discuss the issue, not in New York? Still give me a call and I will answer all of your questions. As for the question of how our company will do in the future, honestly I think that depends on us! We’ve been in business for 3 years already and almost about to breach our 3,000,000th customer. IF YOU HAVE DOUBTS IN AMBIT AS A CONSULTANT OR CUSTOMER GIVE ME A CALL (607)481-5258

    Hey Jon,

A subway franchise cost money. Why would you question the fee that a company charges for people to partner with them?
Why does Mcdonalds charge people 1 Million before they open a store?
You are clearly ignorant. Jon….ACN is truly a scam because a representative for ACN cant really make any money without recruiting a huge downline. With AMbit, its the opposite. You can recieve free Gas and Electricity and a small residual income…just for building a tiny Ambit business. Get Educated JON…

  20. Brad says:

I tried ambit for a while really not understanding it fully. People get sucked into all the energy at the meetings etc like I did. It didnt work for me because im not naturally a good salesman and or people do not naturally follow me like a lot of the top leaders do. Good learning experience though. I learned other ways to make money with websites using google Adsense. good luck to all you ambit lovers. You need to sell other people to come in as consultants to make any sort of money.

  21. susan says:

Many of us signed up around the same time and most got the investment back just by getting 10 customers and two MC’s. It will take some work to build it to what it can be, but I plan to do it. This is something that can work very well and can give you a big return for your efforts. I am excited about the opportunity and can’t wait to grow it to a nice residual earning. If you are not willing to excite others about the opportunity, then you won’t grow. I don’t want any of my friends to do this if they think they can’t do what is required. You have to pick the entreprenurial types who won’t blame you if they don’t succeed. They offer all the tools…..The formula is there, you just have to implement it!

  22. Michele says:

One of my family members from Texas said Ambit copied their entire business plan from Stream Energy’s marketing arm called “Ignite.” She sent me a DVD on Ignite and it looks incredible… only $299 to join vs. $400 bucks with Ambit! Also, I had my attorney look into Ignite/Stream vs. Ambit. He said Stream Energy settled 2 lawsuits against Ambit for plagerism! That makes Ambit look bad, I think.
Now Ignite is getting ready to launch in the Northeast and, from what I understand, is a force to be reckoned with. Stream has $845 million in revenue from ’09 whereas Ambit has done only $300+ million and is in more states already! Also, Stream’s CEO won “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young in ’08 whereas Ambit’s CEO Jere Thompson was nominated but never won. Stream also made the Inc 500 in their first year of eligibility. I think Ambit made the list this year but purchased most of their growth when they bought Commerce Energy for 14.8 million back in ’08 according to my research on the Internet. Can’t find where Stream bought any of their customer base at all so it seems their growth is more “real” than Ambit’s.
Also, Ambit’s marketing CEO Chris Chambless (?) was apparently the founder of a big pyramid scheme called Janglefish a few years ago. They were kind of like Napster but did it through MLM.
Think I’m going to wait for Ignite and Stream Energy to hit up here so I can get in on the ground floor!

  24. call them dreamstealers says:

They are called dreamstealers because they aim to destroy others dreams with their negativity from the fact that their life isn’t what they want. These negative influences should be very ashamed of themselves for venting their own failure to follow directions and influencing vulnerable people that are trying to find credible information on something that could truely change their lives for the good. People – Ambit is a legitimate business opportunity and a chance to make an amazingly great change for the better for your life and your families – for an amazingly low investment cost – it truely is or can be if you simply take advantage of the many options for training and listen to the people that are building an ethical business that is transforming the lives of many, many ordinary people. PLEASE do not listen to negative people in any aspect of your lives – go find positive people that are doing positive things for themselves and others and believe them instead. You will find both kinds of people (ethical and unethical) in every job or profession, follow the ethical and positive ones. Start with trusting your friends above these people that you don’t know that are bent on killing everyones dreams just because they refuse to do what successful people tell them and then don’t do good so they bad mouth everything. Again I say shame on you negative and disgruntled people and to you others – GO FOR IT, LISTEN TO THE SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE AND DISREGAURD WHAT UNCLE LAZY OR AUNT NEGATIVE OR SOME JERK YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW THAT IS TRYING TO MAKE SURE NOONE SUCCEEDS SINCE HE DIDN”T. LIVE, LOVE, BE KIND AND DREAM BIG DREAMS – THEY DO COME TRUE IF YOU JUST BELIEVE AND DO WHAT THE SUCCESSFUL (ETHICAL) PEOPLE TELL YOU TO DO LIVE, LOVE AND “GO FOR IT” You have choices in life (and death) Choose wisely. Bless you in ALL your choices.

  25. Frankey says:

Absolutely amazed at the the level of poor grammar and spelling on the part of supporters here. I’ve seen a couple of presentations and was amazed at the “old time revival” techniques used by the brainwashed people that were newly signed up with the cheers and howls from them. My goodness, there were only 30 people in the room. Very phony. That was my first clue. The presenter was good but the numbers from the presentation didn’t add up for me and I also heard contradicting things related to weekly vs. monthly income. What I took away from this was that the only person that made any real money was the presenter from Long Island. (and he wore cheap shoes – hmmm.)

  26. MooseShady says:

    Hey Frankey

While you are chastising the Ambit Reps with grammar/spelling problems, they’re working the business, and they’re probably making more money than you. Therefore, people like you who trade insults and don’t want to work in the business, need not apply.

  27. Jon says:

Ambit on their web site says they have over 60,000 sales consultants and just 260.000 customers. That is under 4.33 customers on average per consultant, and at 15 cents per customer at the first level, this would give the consultant less than a dollar in commissions monthly . But each of these consultants pay over $400 up front and $25 per month to be a consultant.

In almost all mlms, personal profit depends on having many suckers signed up below you, and those at the bottom of the pyramid always loose far more in costs than they gain from their meager customer profits. The money is siphoned from the pockets of many at the bottom to fill the pockets of a few at the top. Ambit talks about the profits with 5,000 or 10,000 in your down line, but the fact is that with 60,000+ consultants, only a few could have 5,000 or 10,000 customers in their down line, since there are only 260,000 Ambit customers total.

As for the customer savings, Ambit only promises a 1% energy cost savings in two states, and the big potential savings they talk about in Texas is for peak energy cost. Ambit avoids talking about how much they actually produce in off peak savings in Texas. Nor does Ambit mention whether they charge customers fines and “reconnect” fees for payments even a few days late. If large late payment fines and fees are imposed, it could wipe out years of energy savings for people who can least afford to loose that money.

The unrealistic numbers in the web site are presented with toothy smiles.

  28. Joe says:

I am a Ambit consultant. I have also been in many MLM’s. Some I made money and some I made a little. For those of you who have had a business or worked in a business, I have done both, you are in a MLM.
Now mind you you may not charge someone you are hiring to come to work for you but you do charge your clients.
As a business owner – when I get a customer I charge them a fee for my services. The more clients I sign up the more I will make. I believe Ambit is doing the samething – I join (buy $400 for a franchise/piece of the business) and start my own Ambit and ability to make money.
My son is buying a franchise – Costing him around $240K – The company is going to make money off of him and the other 60 stores that are already open. I am not sure what he is really getting for $240K – other than a company that has only been around for 7 to 9 years and does have a somewhat proven track record. Ambit has a somewhat proven track record. Someone above mentioned the MLM bigdogs bring their teams with them. Well, those teams won’t go with them if those teams didn’t make some money.
If I only make money back and I wil. If I only see a savings on my electric bill then that is good as well. Anything above that is really good since I work full time right now at a job that I love. Plus I am a retired Army Officer and have that income as well. So, I don’t need the Ambit money/opportunity. I want the Ambit money/opportunity.
On last thing – I have called our state and asked how they could let Ambit a known pyramid scheme company in the state and allow them to do business in the state. After a long talk with the state – I was more than ever convinced that they were ok.

  29. RayinPenn says:

    Rules of the game:
1)Never invest in anything where you cannot clearly identify the economic benefit of the product being offered. Ambit doesnt own any Energy Producing plants..They are resellers. Ask yourself what good or service have you provided as a consultant “the opportunity to sell to your friends The opportuntiy to sell to their friends and make money” (Note how its a big circle). have you really created anything? have you provided a service No – so what is the economic beneifit–answer none.

2)Never try to convince anyone with ‘Ponzi’ fever that it is a scam they cannot hear you – they are in the grip of the greed monster – they will say nasty things because you are challenging their vision and they would have to admit they were fever struct. Bernie Madoffs victims didnt believe it when he was lead off in handcuffs.

  30. Meg says:

    Hello,
I recently joined Ambit Energy as a consultant. I am 20 years old and a college student. My dad is a Senior Consultant. He has been a consultant for almost a year. He payed 429 dollars to get into the business. Each month his residual income from Ambit has grown. This past monthly check was for over 600 dollars…
What I am trying to say is that Ambit is NOT a scam. If it were a scam, my dad would have never made back the money he put into Ambit. My dad this year alone will have made over 5,000 dollars from being a consultant, and these checks will continue to grow over time, and are residual (which means every month for the rest of his life).
Here is THE BIGGEST REASON WHY AMBIT IS NOT A BAD COMPANY: My dad already made back the 429 he spent becoming a consultant…which means he could walk away today and have lost nothing. He could wipe his hands clean and say Ambit is not for him, without any monetary loss.
I say why not try this? If I get a check for 600 dollars a month for the rest of my life in a years time…Why wouldn’t I invest in this company? That 600 dollars could help me with groceries, rent, a car payment or saving up for a vacation.
Ambit is only unfair to those who don’t work hard. There is no scam, just hard workers and lazy ones. The lazy ones get angry because there is no compensation for their 429 dollars. The ones who try (even if it’s for a couple of months) will make back the 429, and more.

  31. Sele says:

STOP SAYING AMBIT IS A SCAM “IS NOT “ IS VERY REAL! I am an Ambit Regional consultant and I am very happy with my decision to join the company because I made my investment in a month and 1/2 with not much effort. From here on it’s just earnings so I don’t see what is so bad about making any extra money by just making one initial investment which you can make back in a couple of weeks if you put some effort. Why would the 2nd largest company and 3rd most profitable company in the world like Royal Dutch Shell clear us out and be our partners? And also why would the Hunt Family invest in Ambit? I am happy just to know that I will save on my electric bill and help my friends and family do the same in this tough economic times. If you are going to research about an opportunity you would like to pursue, know where you get your information from, because there are a lot of haters out there like the other ESCO or competitors that know that Ambit is the only one that offers the FREE ENERGY CREDIT AND TRAVEL REWARD POINTS. I went to research the Public Service Commission and went through every competitor in NY and no one offers what Ambit has. We are #1 out of 500 companies in the USA check us out on INC.com September 2010 issue when we were only in 4 states at the time and a 4 year old company. Also the top 100 MLM in the world Ambit holds #38 the top 2 companies in that list are AVON and Amway have been around for decades and are all over the world, Ambit is just starting 4 year old company 4 states at the time. We don’t sell, we help people save on a bill they already pay for. Also do not believe everything you find on google check this study I recently saw on the news: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1352929/Endangered-tree-octopus-proves-students-believe-read-Internet.html Do not let anyone make decisions for you. Make decisions for yourself and research reputable sites such as Better Business Bureau we have an “A”, Public Service Commission, and Poweryourway.com Wish you all the best in whatever decision you make and God Bless!

  32. Just Saying says:

I think the point that those criticizing the operation are trying to make, is that this is a pyramid scheme–that is, you can definitely make money but not through selling the company’s product. Rather, you make money by convincing others to join; you are selling other people on the idea that they, too, can sell people on joining.

Realistically, I don’t think there’s anything ethically or morally wrong with this. It is what it is, just know that’s what you’re going to have to sell to people: the idea that they can persuade others to sign up. This is a wholly legitimate business plan. Some people may be “tricked” by this, but that brings up a whole host of other arguments, namely, government regulation of either energy companies or m2m/pyramid scheme marketing.

LOL, I agree though, the most telling signal is the grammar/English usage of the Ambit proponents. Wait, actually most telling are the ads on the sides of these pages.

  33. GG says:

Ambit is a marketing scheme at its best disguised as MLM that is selling “a real product”. The scheme is not about the product, it is indeed real, and not about the fact that it is the multi-level marketing that has a pyramid structure – that is also fine. As some of their crap infomercials say almost any organization, including girl scouts and your place of work have a pyramid structure. The HUGE difference: none of the members of those organizational pyramid structures is required to pay a dime to join, and in doing so rely on other members joining in to recoup their investments. You see – your place of work and girl scouts have pyramid structures but these pyramids has a finite number of members and it is not required to grow endlessly for the members at the bottom of the pyramid to recover the money they put in (I strongly recommend you read the last sentence a few more time until you fully understand it!).

A simple mathematical analysis would reveal that if any member recruits only two new members below him the pyramid grows exponentially and soon enough consumes the entire population of the US.

This Ambit scheme is a pyramid scheme as many others before it. Unfortunately they flourish during recession times and suck many naïve and innocent people before leaving them out in the cold with even less money than they have started with. IT IS ILLEGAL!!! And while they can go under the radar screen for a while, they will be stopped eventually and the people scheming them will go to jail!

My strongest advice to anybody who joined and builds on this fake dream is: run away as fast as you can. Immediately stop paying them and consider the money you lost a “Rabbi Gelt” paid for the biggest lesson in life: How to avoid becoming a sucker.

  34. GG says:

One more thing: many people who respond here claim: “I am a member and already made money! In just a few weeks I almost recovered my investment”. Well, if this is what you claim think how many people below you needed to join and market the product for you to merely recover a portion of your investment. Think about THEIR investment and how many more should join below to pay THEM back (and then how many should join BELOW the latest layer and so on). For the pyramid scheme to work it has to be bottomless and this is impossible!

You see, in a pyramid marketing structure you are either a victim (if you did not recoup your investment) or a schemer (if you recouped your investment and started making money). If you are the latter you are performing something illegal and might go to jail for it. If you did not know it by now, you know it now!

Bernie Madoff who carried out a similar pyramid scheme claimed “I made a lot of money for many of my investors”. Yes he did! But for the few that made money a huge number of people lost their life savings, organizations collapsed, Fifty Billion dollars went down the drain to enable a few people (just like the ones responding on this board “we are making money”) to claim winners. Bernie Madoff went to jail for the rest of his measurable life and his son shot himself in the head. That’s quite a return!

    NOW YOU KNOW!!!

  35. I have just joined thanks to a friend I found over the years to be very carefull with his money. I never liked the idea of MLM but a spark has been lit under me. Save money on my gas and electric why not. I will keep you posted.

  36. John Miner says:

I was with Ambit since 2008 .. I am selling my RC coded business.. Someone make me and offer. I am going broke in AMbit.. due to the 26 dollars a month. I am with another company that lets me make money when I work.. not 6 levels down. I have also commercial electric .. soon commercial and residential gas and electric. and we are the only company that has a cyborg website in the world with energy. We dont charge to join.. no monthly fee and the most progressive website in the world. Ambit was a good starting point. But they can only take you so far. I like the money in my pocket that folds.. not jingles when i do the work. If your ready to graduate tand take your business to a higher level..

  37. Mark M. says:

I have been involved with many different MLM companies in the past including deregulated phone service. I don’t think that this company is a scam like some are calling it. I have just started looking at this company per a friends request. The one thing that I haven’t seen anybody write that I have read so far (might have been but haven’t seen yet) the product that you are selling. I looked at the NY rates and you get 7% off first 2 months then 1% off your service. Now I am no math wiz but if you have a $200 a month electric bill, that save you $2 a month. I know that you are going to say about getting free service when you get customers to sign up. I have sold phone service in the past. You need to see a savings to get customers to join up. Plain and simple. I had to beg and plead with family to get them to switch phone service when I was saving them a few dollars a month. Again I know some of you can sell a comb to a bald man. I am not that kind of person. I need to feel good about selling something to you and truly feel that you are going to gain something from what you have done. I also know that you should be able to go up to family and get them to buy service from you even if it costs the same. Tough sell, I’m telling you from experence. I am not trying to discourage anybody from getting into this company. I don’t know the comp. plan to know how you get paid on your customers. I feel that you should build your business by gathering customers and finding reps from them. Not finding reps then customers. That is just the way that I think. Reps come and go alot in MLM and you will find not many do any work. That is why I like to be able to make money by building a customer base and putting icing on the cake with the reps. I will sit down with the rep and look at the plan. Just don’t feel that you can build a strong customer base past family and friends without giving a good savings on their monthly bill. Just my 2 cents. God Bless

  38. Jesus says:

I’ve been a cosultant with ambit for about 2 months and I have sponsored only one consultant. I paid $429 to start the.business and $24.95 for my two personal websites, which are optional, and I have recieved $700 back on bonusses. That leaves me around $246 in profit. Again, I have personally sponsored only one consultant and also have signed 16 customers which means that once they all pay their fist bill, I will have free electricity month after month, after month, after month. Once again, been in business only two months, $246 profit, free electricity. Do you think it was worth giving it a try?

  39. Jerry says:

Ambit Energy is the best opportunity of our days. The company is very honest. Gives great service to customers and great compensation to consultants. Joined 9 months ago as customer and as consultant. Started from 0 and making money now. A lot of claims above are just not legit.
Yes my family is my customers, but they were all happy to get the service I offered them. Who would not want to save a little bit of money.

  40. PDNewyork says:

I have been a consultant with Ambit for 1 month and a customer for 3 years. I paid my $429 to buy in and to date have made back $400. I’ve only signed customers and don’t have any consultants. Once my customers pay their first bill I will start receiving free electricity supply. My supply averages $100 a month. I’ll happily take the credit on my monthly bill and look forward to getting it every month. If I didn’t believe in this company I would never ask family or friends to become customers. Losing family and friends to make money wouldn’t be worth it! There are many benefits to becoming a customer and saving at least 1%(usually more) is better than saving nothing at all. Here in N.Y. the electricity prices will be raised 12% as stated in yesterday NY Post. People are looking for ways to save. A little here and a little there all add up. As far as consultants go, sure I can sign someone up just to get a bonus but why would I? You are only as good as your team. If I have to persuade you to sign up it’s not for you. This company will be whatever you make of it. It will depend on your hard work. It is not effortless. In my opinion the $429 is paid so you have a goal to work toward. They make it easy to make it back with double or 50% match points. They want you to strive to make it back and then say to yourself, well I made that back what else can I make? If it was free many would join and many wouldn’t be productive. This is damaging to your team and it’s potential. I know many people in Ambit and some of the consultants make more than their sponsors. It all depends on your work ethic and how bad you want it. I think thats the key wanting it not necessarily needing it.

  41. Rick says:

I have done Amway, Excel and looked at other MLM companies. I never felt more confident than I do now with Ambit. I have been in 1 week signed 10 cust’s who were thrilled to get rid of NYSEG and their England roots which most people don’t realize. I made back $200.00 on my investment and while I have not signed up any consultants i see the big picture. You only need 20 cust’s then help your consutants to also get 20 plus Ambit is an American bases business with real American people doing the business, do the research about NYSEG and where their money goes Anyone in NY, MD,TX and now PA lets make money together and help real americans achieve their financial dreams contact me at http://www.ricksap.joinambit.com

Hi, I went to my first Ambit meeting on February 15. That day , as I walked out the door my tv service was disconnected. I also rent and do not even own a car. I went to the meeting and was sucked into the high energy in the room and all of the promises. A month later my taxes came in and instead of buying the new couch I promised myself I bought into Ambit. I have now been a member for a month and have not signed on ONE customer! This, believe me, is not from lack of trying. I am working on this everyday and my downline is always there trying to support me. But I always feel very insecure when I am asking and telling my family and friends and people at the pre school about this…the second they point out how this is a pyramid I back off and leave it alone. I feel very depressed and like I have failed myself, family and downline which I know can not succeed without me. I believe this can work, and I really need it to..I will be losing my (rented) house sometime this summer and I have 4 little girls that need this. I just get this really bad feeling that only the rich get more rich and my $400 helped them. If any of you successful Ambit consultants have any suggestions for me I could really use them, I desperately need this to work for me and my family. Thank you all and God Bless!

  43. open4energy says:

There is a reason direct sales people are well paid.

Yes they require skills in explaining the product, and listening to the customers needs – and assuming the product has value persuading prospects to become customers.

But, most sales calls result in rejection – for some reason people who do not need what you are selling, or do not understand what you are selling will put the salesperson down. I guess it makes one feel superior to put another person down – who knows?

Being directly accountable for sales success, and being put down regularly is not something many people put up with. But it is required if you are to be successful.

Sadly there are some energy scams out there – we publish a directory of the more obvious of these.

The best way I know to check up on a products authenticity is to google ‘energy scam and product name’ – or ‘open4energy and product name’ – it is not perfect but we try and have accurate opinion. We do not sell any products, have no angle to lead – simply good information to help the consumer assess what is right for them.

MLM is tough – it is good for some and not so for others. Do not let a need for money cause you to mislead yourself about your selling skills.

Ask a friend who knows you well if this IS something you are cut out to do.

    Do an on-line aptitude test.

Then if yes, build a plan and get to work.

  44. Brian says:

That last post by Erika makes my heart ACHE! These snake oil salesmen at Ambit should be in JAIL! That’s RIGHT! Convincing people on the same lies that have made multi-level marketing scams a money pit for the last 10-15 years. I feel bad for people who don’t have the willpower to resist the sales pitches and glamor that these salesman spew to the audience. $400 to join as a consultant should tell you that Ambit is stealing from you. THATS RIGHT…ITS CALLED THEFT. Yes, you have to give them the money, but the high hopes and dreams they write articles about and publish in their fancy magazines don’t mean crap, unless you’re in the inner circle of wolves who started this fantasy money money making scheme. Stay AWAY from these pyramid schemes! They are no different than the hundreds of schemes before them. They are not true companies, they create nothing, and sell themselves as a middleman. Seriously if you think about it, why would you want a middleman between you and your energy company that can control how much you pay? It makes NO SENSE! I hope Ambit fails soon and its business leaders are put behind bars where they belong. And just because our disgusting GOVment allows them to practice “business” doesn’t mean what they are doing is ethical.

  45. Dawnwonders says:

After reading all the post of “postive” and “THis is NOT a Scam” I have to wonder if the “High Rollers” at Ambit aren’t monitoring these sites and posting themselves so it does look like a big money maker. Just saying…

  46. joe says:

Thinking of joining still unsure after two meetings what happens a month a year from now two years from now ambit sells or gets bought out and someone who was dirt poor got in to ambit many of them seem to be doing well$$ hopefully saving$$ and then the new company cuts off the checks sad after everybody busted ass and signed up customers like in construction trade get it done get laid off til the next one buid ambit get done help still unsure???

  47. New to this says:

Ambit is NOT a pyramid scheme! Ambit is licensed to provide energy services in 5 states and is a member of the Direct Selling Association and abides by its Code of Ethics.

I have been a marketing consultant for Ambit Energy since April 1st, and in just 4 weeks I have already made back $300 of the $429 I paid to start my Ambit business just by getting 6 customers. I will be getting even more money in the next 2 weeks once I enroll 2 more customers. So my initial investment will be pretty much recouped in just 2 months which I don’t think is a bad deal at all since I see the big picture and know without a doubt that I will continue to earn more and that the income potential is limitless.

I have not enrolled any consultants yet, but I truly believe that this is a wonderful opportunity that can change my life, and I am sharing this with everyone I care about. Donald Trump and the author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad advocate network marketing because of the limitless income potential. Of course, you have to work at it, but that’s common sense. Ambit is not a “get rich quick” scheme. It’s a real, legitimate business that can pay you well if you put forth some effort.

Neither the company nor the people “above” me are getting rich off of the $429 I paid to start my business. This fee makes up less than 2% of the company’s revenue. Think about it. How much do you pay for your electricity and/or gas bill each month? How much do you pay in a year? The company makes money off of the customers that utilize our servcies day after day, year after year…NOT a one-time enrollment fee of $429.

  48. Chris says:

Oh man it’s terrible to see all the Ambit bashers. First lets start off with just the customers. It is (FREE) for a customer to become a customer and save money every month. That right there should show people that if they don’t want to put money up they don’t have to. Be a customer get some money off your bill every month. Than if you want to take it to the next level as a customer pretend you baught into the business and search for customers. Find 15 and now you get a large portion of your electricity bill taken off each month (FOREVER). Guy’s that is absolutely FREE you don’t have to pay any money to be a customer save some money and find some more customers to get free energy! That right there is an amazing opportunity in its self and if you can’t see it well …nevermind then. Lets say you want to take this to the next level and buy into the business. First what is the $400 for bla bla bla. Obvious look at the compensation plan. How can this company pay bonuses on all of those levels if the buy in isn’t high enough. Is this wrong? No not at all if you climb the levels you want a bigger reward, that’s what makes this so amazing. Now to the people complaining they are in ambit without a customer or consultant this is your own fault! Sorry to point it out to you but if your not confident and showing people how can you get a customer or consultant? If you a show a friend promise him it wont cost anything, it takes 5 minutes to set up and every month he saves money. Take care of it for him be confident because you are telling the (TRUTH). You are saving him money, he is helping you out and how is this scamming him? Jesus I find it so amazing that people wont be a customer cause they don’t want to be scammed lol. Your not paying anything call your electric company they will explain the program to you. Some people don’t get it they want to work their 9-5 as a slave for their boss every day so when the economy gets bad they can get fired. Well I’ll be on my way to slowly building a business. A few consultant a few customers. I will work my slave job full time but this on the side until it is big enough to take it full time. Two to three years later I will enjoy (FREE energy of my bill every month and a residual check every month).

  49. Chris says:

You want an honest review well here it is. If you buy into this company you need to think am I doing this because I need a job now and can’t survive. If this is the reason well unless you have a network of people, motivated to talk to strangers or internet savvy you wont surive off this by its self at first. This take some time to build (It’s an investment) obviously some people will be different and can build a huge business in a short period of time but most people will get involved make their money back and slowly start pulling in a $100 / $200 check with some extra benefits. But look down the road 4 years from now. Than you should have a ton of consultants, and thousands of customers from the work of yourself and the other people in your business. Wouldn’t it be nice to hit the lotto in four years from now and take a $2,000.00 check in each month? If you want fast results you better have a rocket in your pocket and know how to get this in front of people. If you want financial freedom in a few years that is a more realistic goal.

As for the hired guns, the last meeting I went to did not give me the ****** to sell anything. Mr. Chambless and his so called team of experts needs to get with the program. I remember Mr. Lawrence in a meeting a while back as being the life of the party. He should lead the channel. Mr. Chambless needs to go! A big bore!

Imagine, another failed business by Mr. Thompson and Mr. Janglefish.

  52. Allen Carmichael says:

I am not an Ambit Energy sales person/recruiter and have no desire to be. That being said, I am a business owner with a high electric bill. Ambit Energy does indeed yield a slightly lower (about 10%) electric bill here in Illinois. I’m thankful for the savings, but more importantly, if I understand MLM correctly, I’m helping ordinary moms, dads, etc.. by being an Ambit customer. Those of you who have never owned a business would not appreciate the logic, but I’d rather help people who are small business owners than have 100% of my utility payment go directly to Commonwealth Edison.

Bottom line is God Bless those who have the internal desire to be business owners and enjoy the many rewards (freedom, tax-deductions, etc.) that small-business ownership entails. You have my respect, congratulations and best wishes for maximum success!

Ok, so Ive spent a little time reading through this blog, as it was brought to my attention by a friend considering this “oppertunity”. Here is my take on Ambit…It is a real company and a real buisness. Can people be successful with it…absolutely. What does need to be considered tho, is weither or not its worth it to that person or not. Any buisness’s success depends on what you put in to it. If you weigh the facts and it sounds like what you will get out of it is worth your time, then go for it. My sister n law started doing the “Ambit thing” last year. I declined, as I felt that the rewards werent worth my efforts. I am already a small buisness owner and my focus is there. If I had, had the extra time available, I might have thought about it further, but I already knew I wouldnt be able to put in enough to get anything worth my time out. This however, is not true for everyone. My sister n law, no great success story there either. We are both fairly educated people with high school, college, etc…but she is just a bad sales person, period. Same reason pampered cheif, tupperware, partylite, and home interiors didnt work for her either. Was Ambit a waste of her money, ultimately yes. So was all the other “small buisnesses” she has had. This doesnt mean that people dont make great side money or even “full time money” off these do-it yourself from home buisnesses. So many opinions flying around here with mixed in rudeness, and some of you have been down right mean to others. Is that neccissary? I know you can have passion for a buisness. I have a deep passion for what I do, but I wouldnt start calling someone awful names because they dont respect what I do. It just means they dont have the interest or understanding for it that I do. I think thats ok. Bottom line, is Ambit a scam? I guess that depends on how you look at it. If you dont have the time to invest, if your not a good sales person, if you dont believe in the worth of the product yourself, then yes, you may feel like its a scam. If you do have the time, you do well to sell people on something, and your excited and find worth in the product, then no, its not. I would tend to agree that some information should be presented and represented better, which I believe makes this company appear a bit un-creditable, but…what do you want with a bunch of ammature sales people selling it to each other? Companies pay for promotion the way they do for a reason, so we as consumers, feel comfortable with them and their product. Not saying its the way it should be, just that its the way it usually is. To those who have found success here, congratts, hope it continues for you. For those who have not, its ok, its not for everyone, and sometimes in life we get burned by trying new things that end up not working for us. Cudos for trying. For those considering the venture…just like any new buisness, its a gamble but mostly depends on you and how you handle it. Good luck to all.

@ Jason; All business’ get a Federal Tax number ID from the IRS. The tax ID number has to be obtained to do business. The IRS does not investigate to determine if the business is legit. The IRS just wants to collect taxes. Your fact
    # 1 is irrelevant

Fact # 3 The BBB rates state by state. In Illinois Ambit gets a C+. The BBB rating system is based on consumer complaints, not on whether or not the business may be scamming its employees.

These are just the two factual errors you made that I know off the top of my head. The rest of your statements may be true. Since you were dead wrong on two of your facts it calls into question if your other “factual” statements are true. Jason, be sure you have ALL your facts right so that no one can question your veracity.

Hello out there. I am an Energy Consultant here in Texas, and have access to almost 15 energy companies nationwide and Canada. My DBA is Bottom Line Energy. I have 8 years of experience. Ambit, I have closely looked into, and will check out a meeting again soon. My main concern is the mils payout residual plan, credit check for customers, and customer service. All very important if I would get involved with Ambit. I think the cost $429 to buy in, and monthly fee is a bit insane. Depending on the answers I get, and I mean, honest answers, no lying, I will decide if I am in or not. Honestly folks, money can be made in energy. You don’t have to buy in to be a consultant with many companies. Good luck!

  58. Mark Fielder says:

I would love the naysayers here to ACTUALLY have a shred of proof other than their unfounded opinion. I love the Telecom “scam” that was refered to, how many people do you know with a house phone anymore? Hmm, could it be that the market evaporated for the service they provided? Nope, all the money they made was just a big scam, must be it! The advent of cell phones had nothing to do with it. I’d be leary about Ambit, I just don’t see energy lasting either, there are so many options out there to get around it already, there is a whole group of people living in this town that don’t use energy at all. They stick to candles for light and horses for transportation, they are taking Ambit DOWN!

Remember folks, those that are too weak to pursue their dreams will work hardest to crush yours.

Ambit will work for you if you actually work and want it to. Let those that don’t believe sit in their cubes and answer phones. Oh and by the way, I’m NOT involved with Ambit.
